Yacine Belhacene was the leader and singer of Cheb Balowski and Nour, two bands which defined the urban/mestizo sound in the Barcelona of the early 2000s. Re-imagined as Yacine & the Oriental Groove, his music matured without losing its vital energy. The new sound is urban, raw and sophisticated at once. The oud, bouzouki and violin of Yannis Papaioannou, naturally draw melodies from Eastern Mediterranean to Northern African, blended with reggae and pop rhythms. At times reminiscent of the 60’s groups, sometimes traditional, but always very intense. The inclusion of electric guitar accentuates the feeling of a psychedelic group, expanding soundscapes, while the rhythm section: bass, drums and percussion, masterfully maintains the rhythms of chaabi, rock, reggae or funk, converting a concert of Yacine & The Oriental Groove into an experience that stimulates the brain, feet and above all: the soul.
Since 2010, the band has released 3 albums and performed more than 200 concerts in Catalonia, Spain, Greece, Morocco, France, Holland, Hungary, Algeria and Canada.
